About Us

This page is still under construction.  Eventually we will get around to posting some nice pictures of our handsome staff and our shop.  In the meantime, here is what you really want to know:

  • We are a real business.  We have been in business in Morgantown, WV since 1980.  We have been in the same location at 99 Holland Avenue in Westover (a small town across the river from Morgantown) since 1993.
  • We still go by MCVR, or Morgantown Camera and Video Repair, even though we no longer repair video cameras or other video equipment.  It is simply to much trouble to change all the signage, forms, and so on.  We usually answer the phone as Morgantown Camera Repair.  We actually started as Morgantown Camera Repair in 1980 and became MCVR in 1993.
  • The legal entity under which we have operated since 1989 is Electrotech Incorporated.  We may also answer the telephone as Electrotech because we also do some computer and IT consulting under that name.
  • We are a small operation.  We once had seven technicians and two support staff.  We started out servicing cameras and slide projectors and gradually expanded into video and audio service.  In recent years, we have "downsized" and returned to our core competencies of servicing cameras and slide projectors only.
  • We have long-standing relationships and open parts accounts with all the camera manufacturers,  In recent years, the camera repair landscape has changed greatly.  We focus mostly on Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and Pentax repairs because these companies actually make parts available at a price that allows us to complete some repairs at a price that makes sense to the customer and still allows us to make a profit.
  • Because we have been doing this for so long, we have some parts around for older cameras, but we do limited repairs on most older models.
  • We had a huge supply of salvage parts from our "dead camera graveyard", but we are in the process of cutting back that supply.  It simply takes up too much space and is takes too much time to keep track of all the old parts.  If we can help you with parts for older cameras, we will.
  • There are some advantages to dealing with a small shop. "We" is now mostly me.  My name is Dennis Houseknecht.  I have been repairing cameras as a hobby and as a profession for over thirty years.  When you call, I will probably answer the phone.  I do almost all of the repairs myself, so if you call with a question, you will get the answer straight from the "horses mouth".  Most of the shipping, calling, and handling of the cameras is done by other family members or a part-time office helper.  I cannot say that I have never had an unhappy customer (it really is true that you can't please everyone), but there are very few of them.  You won't get the run-around here, and there is not a lot of buck-passing.  I will do my best  to give you excellent service at a fair price and I always try to make things right.
