Our Repair Services
Because the repair market changes rapidly these days and because the
availability of both new and salvage parts is always changing, we no
longer post a comprehensive list of models we repair or estimates for
every model. It's just too hard to keep it up to date and
accurate. In general, we recommend <calling
or send an email> before you send a camera for repair.
Below is a general list of the items we do and do not offer repair
services for, arranged by type of equipment and manufacturer.
Items or brands that are not listed are probably ones that we do not
service, especially if they are more than ten years old. However,
we do still have some parts for older cameras and cannot list them all.
You can contact us, even if your camera is not listed.
<click here> to send us a form requesting
information about models not listed.
Go to:
- Digital Cameras
- All brands of digital cameras:
- Lens repairs (the lens will not zoom properly, or the zoom gears
make a "stripping" sound):
- Lens repairs fall into two categories. Many times, we can
repair the lenses by disassembling them and putting the zoom
assemblies back into alignment. Other times, there are broken
parts inside the lens and the entire lens unit has to be replaced.
Nikon, like most manufacturers, does not sell internal parts for
lens units. However, the zoom gears are available separately
for some of the more expensive models.
- We estimate most lens repairs at $80
- $110. This is for lenses that do not have broken parts
inside. We are able to repair about half to two thirds the
jammed lenses we get at this price .
- If there are broken parts inside the lens, we will contact you
with an estimate and an expected time frame for lens replacement.
- The cost of lens replacement is fairly high - usually $120-180
(or more), depending on the model. This makes lens replacement
marginally economical on many models, especially models over two
years old. If you do not want the lens replaced, there is no
charge except return shipping ($9-10 for most locations and only if
you want the camera sent back to you).
- The camera takes blank images, or the image is distorted
- There are a number of digital cameras models sold by Canon,
Fuji, Konica-Minolta, Nikon, Olympus, Ricoh, and Sony (and possibly
others) which use CCDs (image sensors) manufactured by Sony which
have had a high rate of failure. Details can be found at
http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1128958202.html
- Most manufacturers will replace defective CCDs affected by this
problem at no charge, regardless of warranty status. This
service advisory (technically, it is not a "recall", since recalls
are related to safety issues) only applies to certain models and
certain serial number ranges.
- If your camera exhibits the symptoms listed above, we recommend
following the link.
We do not replace the CCDs in any digital camera models.
- Canon - we offer at least some repairs
on all Canon digital models, including:
- Fuji Finepix -
we do limited repairs
- Konica-Minolta - we do limited repairs
on Dimage series and Maxxum series digital cameras. As you
probably know, Minolta exited the camera market abruptly early
in 2006. The parts for these cameras come through Sony
parts suppliers. Sony will not continue to support these
cameras over the long term. In addition, Sony has
increased the prices of these parts. We can replace minor
parts, such as battery covers on some Dimage series cameras, but
replacing major parts on these models is probably not
economical. We refer most Maxxum D series repairs to Sony,
but expect to pay a premium price for most repairs. You can
reach Sony Customer Service at 800-222-SONY.
- Nikon - We offer at least some
repairs on all Nikon digital cameras, including:
- Olympus Camedia and Digital Stylus
- Pentax Optio
- Sony Cybershot
- Brands not listed - We do
not offer repairs on most brands not listed.
- Parts are either difficult to obtain or
so expensive that few repairs are economical for:
- Casio
- Kodak
- Panasonic
- Samsung
- Toshiba
- Vivitar
- There are no parts available for:
- Epson
- Gateway
- Hewlett Packard
- 35 mm Cameras
- There are too many brands and models to list,
and we do have a few parts for some older models that we
generally to not repair. Please <call us or send an email> or
<use this form> to request
information.
- You will find a number of our most
commonly-requested repairs on the <home
page>
- Many or most repairs on 35mm "point and
shoot" cameras (automatic cameras that do not have removable
lenses) are no longer economical and our parts supply for these
models is being exhausted. We still repair some of these
cameras, but we evaluate them on a case-by-case basis.
- If you 35mm camera is heavily worn or in
rough condition, we will usually not attempt repairs. The
prices on most film cameras are quite depressed these days, so
we only invest our efforts in cameras that are in relatively
good cosmetic condition
-
Medium Format
Cameras
- We offer at least some repairs on the
following Medium Format equipment. We strongly recommend
that you <call or send an email>
first.
- Hasselblad bodies, film
magazines, and lenses
- Mamiya 645 and RB67
bodies, film magazines, and lenses
- Mamiya twin lens bodies
and lenses
- Lenses for 35mm and
Digital SLRs
- We stock some parts and can repair many
lenses, but you should <call or send
an email> before sending
lenses. Many repairs that require major parts (often the
case when a lens has been dropped) are not economical or should
be sent directly to the manufacturer
- Flash units,
Winders, and Motor Drives
- We stock the feet and battery covers for many
popular flashes. We do not offer other repairs on flash
units.
- We have a few parts and offer limited repairs
on some winders and motor drives
- Please <call or
send an email> before sending flash units, winders, or motor
drives.
- Kodak Carousel Slide Projectors
